I hope you are staying warm! The groundhog wasn't lying when he predicted 6 more weeks of winter! Brrrrr. Please remember to send students to school wearing layers! I notice they love to wear hats and gloves to keep their little hands warm. We will not go outside for recess if it is below 40, so no worries!
Sight Words
The students are on a mission to learn their sight words! We created a new data wall to increase the number of sight words the students learn. We know sight words are important because they help the students read better, improve confidence, and help with writing sentences. I tested the students last week to see how many words they knew based on the kindergarten list from August- May. For every 10 words the students read correctly, they earned a scoop. The students cut and glued their scoops on their cone and we created a new board to show off their learning! They are so SMART!
Below you will see a graph we completed together.
We created this graph together and talked about where we are as a class. We also agreed on a class goal. The goal is to learn 5 new words by March 2nd. I am sending home a copy of the list I used to test the students so you will know which words they read correctly and which ones they still need to practice. This is for you to keep! We will still be learning 3 new words each week, but I realize that the students already know some of these words from reading so no use in holding them back!
And the fun part...
At the end of the year, I would like to have an ice cream party to celebrate the students achievements and setting/ reaching their goals.

Conferences
You should have received an email for conference sign ups. Please let me know if you need additional times/ dates. Lately, it seems as though many school meetings are being scheduled with little notice. If something comes up and I have to reschedule, I will let you know as soon as possible!
Math
I will be testing the students one on one beginning tomorrow on our Measurement unit. I feel confident that the students will do well. They have enjoyed measuring things around the classroom. You will receive their scores as soon as testing is complete. Our next unit will begin next week on addition!
Dental Health Month
February is dental health month! The students learned about some healthy habits to help take care of their pearly whites! Check out what they wrote below.
